The All-Women Lifeguard Tournament in Sandy Hook, New Jersey, is an annual event, and it’s a great place for New York photographers — of sports, fashion, the outdoors, whatever — to go out and get something for their portfolio. It’s an especially rewarding event to photograph if you need to infuse your photo collection with some energy. Good light almost guaranteed.
In 2012 I decided to shoot this event from the air. I hired my favorite helicopter pilot, Eric, from Pegasus Helicopters out of Linden Airport, in New Jersey, and we were off. Clean backgrounds. Great subject. Perfect day.
